Oologah's Council Passes Ordinance Aimed At Illegal Immigrants
    KOTV - 10/3/2006 6:11 AM - Updated 10/3/2006 7:42 AM
A Rogers County town is taking a stand against illegal immigration.

The Oologah town council has passed an ordinance making it illegal for employers to hire illegal immigrants inside the Oologah city limits.

The ordinance was introduced by the mayor. Jerry Holland says Oologah will enforce the law he says the feds have failed to enforce. Oologah mayor Jerry Holland: "They're spineless. They've done nothing about it. It all has to do with our entire immigration policy and something needs to be done."

Contractors we spoke with say it would really help small businesses if cities like Tulsa cracked-down on employers who hire illegal immigrants.

Oologah's ordinance takes effect in 30 days.

Inola, also in Rogers County, is also considering an immigration mandate.

Towns in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Florida, California and Colorado have already passed similar ordinances, which hold employers and landlords responsible for upholding the law.

Oologah adopts ordinance targeting illegal immigrants

OOLOGAH, Okla. The city of Oologah in northeastern Oklahoma is taking aim at illegal immigrants and businesses that hire them.

The town council has approved an ordinance making it illegal for employers to hire illegal immigrants inside the city limits.

It takes effect in 30 days.

Oologah Mayor Jerry Holland says the city ordinance is needed because the federal government isn't enforcing federal immigration laws.

City officials say the ordinance will be enforced through written complaints and when a complaint is filed against a business _ the business will have three days to prove their workers are legal or lose the right to operate in the city.

Well said, mayor - spineless feds! And they're going after the basic problem, employers who hire illegals which is against the law people. Good luck Oologah. Interesting city name btw.

It isn't that they are spineless, its the back room deals they've done to further their own power, starting with the NAU.

So I wonder when we'll read the announcement of the ACLU going to sue this town council as well?
They are going to be pretty damn busy and run out of money soon (hopefully) with all these towns bringing up these types of legislation to deal with the immigration problem.

Jean, Oologah is an Indian name means Dark Cloud, we are full of those names down here in Okla, very hard to pronounce some of them we rednecks get a kick out of the city folk coming here and asking for directions, some of their pronounciation of our towns is hilarious to hear, no we are not laughing at them but with them, they get a kick out of them to lol. Oh yea, we also have some sightings from our oldtimers of BigFoot in Honobi a little town about 30 miles east of me in the mountains, even have our very own BigFoot festival in the fall. Anyway, I am proud to see towns in Okla standing up against the illegal immigration before it gets to be such a problem as it is in Ca. and Tx. Oologah Okla happens to be the birthplace of Will Rogers our famous Cowboy.
