Oops! Mexican National Arrested After Leaving Personal Info At The Border
A Mexican national was arrested in Bakersfield, Calif., after Border Patrol agents discovered “personal belongings” left at the border just a few weeks prior, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported Wednesday.
The 27-year-old male entered the country illegally from Mexico but he made a costly mistake that led to his arrest in the San Joaquin Valley. U.S. Customs and Border Protection told The Daily Caller that border agents came across an abandoned backpack near the U.S./Mexico Border on Feb. 14, the same day the man crossed the border illegally.
“The backpack contained documents that indicated that the individual may be traveling to/located at the Bakersfield, Calif. area,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection told TheDC.
The evidence, left near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, prompted Border Patrol agents to pursue the man in Bakersfield, where he was located and arrested on March 3.
The man is currently in federal custody, facing charges for reentry after deportation. He also has a felony conviction of assault with a deadly weapon from 2015 and has three prior deportations from the U.S.
“This intelligence-driven effort speaks volumes about Border Patrol agents’ tenacity to pursue any criminal who illegally enters our country,” said Richard A. Barlow, Chief Patrol Agent of the San Diego Sector.
