Midwest Voices: Close Door On Illegal Immigrants

Midwest Voices: Close door on illegal immigrants

By Juanell Garrett, Midwest Voices Panelist 2008

We are constantly reminded that we are a nation of immigrants. I think we all get that.

What’s happening now is a different matter. Thousands cross the border every day. The U.S. Border Patrol estimates that two or three illegal aliens make it in for each one detained.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform estimates there were more than 13 million illegal aliens in the U.S. in 2007. Immigration officials believe that number grows by approximately 500,000 per year.

This migration isn’t exactly discouraged by the Mexican government. In January, 2005, the Mexican Foreign Ministry published The Guide for the Mexican Migrant, a 32-page comic book containing a mixture of Boy Scout-like training (what to do when lost) and motherly advice (never swim the Rio Grande alone).

Once here, a ready supply of counterfeit identification allows illegal aliens to work. Forget all that “undocumented workersâ€

If there are no jobs, those here illegally will eventually return home
And if the law is inforced on those who just start up any ole business to get by. They seem to feel all you have to do is hang out a shingle and it's fine. Whether it's legal or you are certified to do the job and pay taxes etc. Heck, I probably mind so much if it was OK for everyone.....but it's not. Seems being illegal opens more doors than being legal.

    You're welcome. Staggering isn't it.

Sounds like that kind of money there is a LOT more than the paltry 12 million they keep quoting. I bet if we wrote down the amount of illegals we see estimated in articles in different states we would come up with MUCH MORE than 12 million.

    I sent Garrett an email:

Ref article: Midwest Voices: Close door on illegal immigrants

    Juanell Garrett:

You wrote in this article, "We are constantly reminded that we are a nation of immigrants. I think we all get that."

I am really getting sick and tired of being told this is a nation of immigrants and journalists allowing it to stand. WE ARE NOT a nation of immigrants. Eight-five percent of our citizens were BORN here. We did not immigrate to the U.S. Our forebears may have been immigrants, WE ARE CITIZENS, NOT IMMIGRANTS.

The next you hear this, please correct whoever says it, and please make sure you correct such quotes in your articles.

The difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien is the equivalent of the difference between a burglar and a houseguest. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
