Opponents of immigration bill get louder

WASHINGTON, June 24: Legislation perceived as amnesty for illegal immigrants has ignited grass-roots groups throughout the United States, it was reported Sunday.

The largest and loudest of the groups, NumbersUSA, reports soaring donations and an 81 percent membership increase since January, the Los Angeles Times said.

Groups like NumbersUSA are playing a larger role than ever in the immigration debate, which could come before the Senate again this week for a pass or fail vote on a bill, the Times said.

NumbersUSA President Roy Beck said he expects to rally the group's 419,000 activist members with dozens of e-mail alerts.

"We're in a war zone right now," said Beck, who touts his battle against pro-bill groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as "an amazing David-and-Goliath thing."

Most polls show U.S. residents are concerned about border security but favor allowing most illegal immigrants now in the country to gain legal status, the Times reported.

Just saw Sessions on Fox News and he repeated how the phones are constantly ringing off the hook and that the majority of we the people are against this amnesty bill. He also stated that he feels very strongly that it will fail.

If Republicans stop this bill, it certainly will go a long way in the '08 elections.....if they don't, the party will be in demise.

With little chance of this passing the House, I wonder WHY so many Senators are so adamant about this bill. There has got to be some money coming from somewhere into their private accounts!

This is a very tough battle and we can't let up. In fact, we have to work harder. Let this quote from US News & World Report (about the Bush adminstration) motivate you to take action today and this week:

"This week will basically be the last chance to pass immigration reform in this administration," says one activist, "and the administration is using every card they've got."
