Lean job market sends immigrant laborers elsewhere or to agencies for help

They often get paid in cash under the table. They don’t show up in the unemployment rate. And when construction jobs disappear, so do these workers, many of whom are transient immigrants.

Unable to find jobs, construction workers are leaving the area to find work in areas like North Carolina, Tennessee and Las Vegas.

In Laredo, TX, it's definitely "If you don't speak SPANISH, it's no job". I've been waiting my whole life to see a headline like this.

There are illegals here who are working in the oilfields and almost getting co workers and themselves killed. They do things like dig right over a gas line, etc... all because they don't speak English.

The down side for the Southwest Florida economy is they’re taking their cash with them, said Jim Wall, a manager for the Southwest Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation.

And the cycle continues. The retailers want the illegals for the money they spend in their establishments. It is ignored that those profits are miniscule when compared to the money taxpayers spend on education, health care, housing, and judicial proceedings. This amounts to an indirect government subsidy to business.

Screw catholic charities! I applied for a job there not too long ago. The lady who did the hiring was black. There were four candidates for three jobs. The other three candidates were black. One was a 'fresh off the boat' Nigerian who's accent was so thick I had trouble understanding him. Suffice to say, I did not get the job.

I'm glad the Catholic charities are helping them and after a few months it will drain their money reserves,then I hope instead of food they will give these folks a bus ticket to their native country !

Catholic charities could easily establish missions in those countries they want to help and avoid this division.

That's VERY generous. Citizens who are poor have a hard time getting these same benefits.

If they can not speak english then they should learn why do we have to change the lanugage just for them i agree no english no job

Well no jobs, yep must be time to go home. I agree keep going to the sanctuary churches No need to learn English your probably not going to be here long enough to become fluent anyway!!
