Immigration Involved In Arrest Of Parents After Toddler Is Found Alone

DORMONT, Pa. -- Dormont Police said a couple arrested on child endangerment charges on Sunday was in the country illegally.

Yolanda Pablo Segundo and Raul Cruz-Romero were taken to the Allegheny County jail Sunday.

Segundo and Romero face child endangerment charges after their toddler was found alone in their apartment.

"We found a 2-year-old Hispanic male child inside the apartment shaking, sobbing and crying hysterically," said Sgt. James Burke of the Dormont Police.

Police told us the baby was in there for at least two hours.

Through a translator, police learned the parents were working.

"Two tenants of the apartment building had heard him screaming since 7:30 this morning," said Sgt. Burke.

Dormont police Sergeant James Burke said a rescue crew entered the second-story apartment through a window because the front door was locked.

Burke says the place was a mess and it was cold.

The baby was taken to the hospital.

After the parents face child endangerment charges with the state of Pennsylvania, they will meet with immigration.

Police told us both of them are here illegally but they don't know the status of their citizenship status of the child, who currently in state custody.
