Mexican drug cartels linked to local marijuana activity

Almost 20,000 marijuana plants were discovered Monday near Shively on property owned by the Pacific Lumber Co., and law enforcement officials suspect the involvement of Mexican national drug-trafficking organizations.

According to Brenda Godsey, public information officer from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the plants were immature and had not yet been planted.

They were discovered by a PALCO employee, who immediately alerted Sheriff’s deputies to their location, Godsey said.
