ALIPAC: Hayworth's Run May Destroy Amnesty in 2010
ALIPAC NOTE: The Hayworth Challenge has McCain afraid to sign to sign the latest Amnesty bill in the Senate as he promised Schumer and the Democrats he would.

Amnesty an issue in AZ GOP primary

Senator McCain (R-Arizona)J.D. Hayworth (Arizona)The head of an immigration enforcement PAC believes Arizona Senator John McCain will be defeated in the GOP primary if he supports a Senate amnesty proposal.
When J.D. Hayworth was in the U.S. House, he made a name for himself as an unwavering opponent of illegal immigration, but he was defeated for re-election in 2006. Now presenting himself as "the consistent conservative," he is trying to end the 24-year career of fellow Republican John McCain by challenging him in the August GOP Senate primary.
William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) -- who has been a firm critic of McCain, particularly on the issue of illegal immigration -- thinks Hayworth has a great shot at beating McCain.
William Gheen (ALIPAC)"Right now I believe J.D. Hayworth is very likely to defeat John McCain in the primary," the ALIPAC president comments. "If John McCain co-signs the amnesty bill -- along with Lindsey Graham and Senator Schumer, Democrat from New York -- as he has promised to do, then J.D. Hayworth will certainly beat John McCain. He will move from likely to certain, and McCain's people know this. They're scared to death of J.D. Hayworth. That's why they've been abusing him and attacking him."
Gheen believes that even if McCain does not sign on to the Senate amnesty bill, Hayworth is still likely to defeat him in the primary, so he says the McCain campaign is hesitant to have him endorse the bill right now.

We really need a few good men. Well, more than a few, but character and integrity seem hard to find sometimes. And politicians free of special interest chains are hard to find.
We have been left with choosing between the lesser of two evils too many times. McCain must go.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Hayworth's record opposing any sort of treats for those here illegally seems to be so long, there should really be no question about his beliefs.
Didn't McCain say on the presidential campaign trail something like: I get it -- close the borders first" ? And that was after he was all for amnesty with his numerous bills in the Senate.
McCain speaks the way political winds blow, but he does not realize that the American people are not stupid and not fooled by pretty talk. Past actions speak louder than today's empty words.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

I wonder how the immigration issue will figure into challenges against other incumbents? Enough of those would help put CIR on ice.

Very true William.
I was thinking the same thing myself. If the Senate brings up Amnesty, it will need McShame's support in order for it to get the valuable "bipartisan" support that it may need to pass. If McShame does indeed suport it, then Hayworth will use it against him and blow him out in the primary.
McShame is in a crossroads. Support amnesty and go down to defeit. Or not support amnesty, see it go down to defeit in the Senate, and increase your chances of vicotry in a GOP primary.
We will see!
