Rally against illegal immigration Sat. at City Hall

A tea party to rally against illegal immigration and amnesty for illegal immigrants is scheduled this afternoon at Hazleton City Hall.

"I'm basically viewing it as a protest. At least we're going to do our part," Daniel Smeriglio of Voice of the People USA in Hazleton said of the event that will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and coincide with tea parties that Unite Against Amnesty is promoting in several states on Saturday.

"President (Barack) Obama along with Republican and Democrat D.C. insiders are preparing a mass 'comprehensive' amnesty for illegal immigrants in America that will provide a path to citizenship and turn illegal aliens into voters even though a vast majority of Americans oppose this," the Web site for Unite Against Amnesty says. "This will only bring more illegal immigration to America!"

Whitehouse.gov, the official Web site for the president, outlines Obama's goals and policies for immigration.

"President Obama supports a system that allows undocumented immigrants who are in good standing to pay a fine, learn English, and go to the back of the line for the opportunity to become citizens."

The president also seeks to remove people's incentives for entering the United States illegally by preventing employers from hiring undocumented workers, his Web site says.
