FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Law enforcement officials are sending out a warning about the dangers of undergoing cosmetic surgery by unlicensed practitioners.

The Middlesex District Attorney's office and Framingham police are specifically targeting the Brazilian population in Metro West communities

It comes after the death last weekend of Fabiola de Paula, 24, of Framingham who had just undergone liposuction in a basement condo.

District Attorney Martha Coakley is encouraging people with information about unauthorized medical procedures and practitioners to come forward.

Framingham Police have set up a bilingual tip line that will accept information regarding illegal medical practices in the area.

Luiz Carlos Ribeiro and his wife, Ana Maria Miranda Ribeiro, are charged with unauthorized practice of medicine in connection with de Paula's death.

Prosecutors say the couple had visas from Brazil for the sole purpose of performing plastic surgery in the basement of a local condominium.
