Phoenix police report they have information from the Mexican Consulate that the parents of a baby girl found at a Phoenix Motel 6 have been located.

Earlier today, authorities requested the help of the public in identifying the parents of the three-month-old girl, found Thursday.

Housekeeping found Tanya Garcia in one of the motel rooms and called authorities at around 12:30 p.m., said Detective Stacie Derge, a police spokeswoman. The motel is at 1530 N. 52nd Drive .

The man renting the room, Miguel Ramos-Lopez, 23 , returned to the scene shortly after officers arrived, Derge said.

Police arrested Lopez on suspicion of child abuse. The suspect left the baby alone for hours at a time in the motel room on several occasions, police said.

The suspect told police he met the baby's parents, Jose and Lupe , in Washington state about a month ago. Lopez, a Washington resident, said he was unsure of the parents' last name, but police said they believe it may also Garcia.

Lopez had been staying at the Motel 6 for at least five days, police said.

According to Lopez, the girl's parents asked Lopez to come to Arizona with them and watch the girl while they went to Mexico. Lopez expected the parents to be back in the next day or two, police said.

Authorities have not been able to verify Lopez's story, Derge said.

"We don't see any obvious signs of trauma," Derge said. "Our main concern is to find the parents of this baby."

Phoenix Police contacted authorities in Washington to research any outstanding missing child reports.
