Patrol seizes $8M in cocaine
THE ENQUIRER
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said this morning it seized 176 pounds of cocaine valued at $8 million during a traffic stop Thursday on Interstate 70 in Preble County.
This is the fifth-largest cocaine seizure in patrol history. The largest was in 1993 with 501 pounds seized.
A trooper stopped a tractor-trailer truck with Arizona plates on I-70 Thursday at 11:06 a.m. for a vehicle defect. A drug-detection dog was brought in and the truck was searched.
Arrested were Emeterio Garcia, 29, Tucson, Ariz., and his passenger, Sabastian Quiroz, 51, of Mexico. Both were charged with felony possession of cocaine and felony possession of criminal tools. They were taken to the Preble County jail.
Preble County is 25 miles west of Dayton; 50 miles north of Cincinnati.
