Pennsylvania Town Takes on ACLU

By Sher Zieve – The city of Hazleton, PA is purposefully taking on the ACLU and the illegal immigrant battle. Although most cities have recently caved to the ACLU, when it threatens a lawsuit against them for any number of perceived violations, Hazleton Mayor Louis Barletta says his city will not and has hired the former head of immigration in the Department of Justice as the city’s defense counsel.

The ACLU and a Puerto Rican group have filed a federal lawsuit against Hazleton for “unconstitutionally seeking to enforce immigration laws.” Canyon News reports that the ACLU filed suit after it disputed Hazleton’s passing local ordinances that fine landlords for knowingly renting to illegal aliens. Canyon News further reports: “It [Hazleton] also decided to deny licenses to local businesses which knowingly hire such aliens. Lastly, it declared that English would be the official language of the town.”

Other towns are said to have been observing Hazleton’s moves and have, subsequently, passed similar ordinances. It is speculated that a grass roots movement of US citizens may be in the offing.

The Hazleton case may eventually reach the US Supreme Court.

The ACLU is always spouting off how this and that is unconstitutional which reminded me of something I recently read in Pat Buchanan's new book State of Emergency. He says:

"Twice, President Bush took an oath to 'preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.' Article IV, Section 4, reads - 'The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion.'

So our own president has not honored his oath. How about the ACLU going after him for not following our Constitution?

As for getting back to Hazelton, I am so proud of that city I could dance in the street. I wish them luck because they are doing the right thing. Our president is not protecting our country so mayors are trying to protect their cities, bravo!

Well, I saw an article where the ACLU is about to lose it's funding through lawsuits. Not sure of the details....but they are whimpering.

I hope they can do something with that case to strip some of their money they are using to destroy America getting "liberties" for foreign nationals at the expense of American CITIZENS.

The ACLU does not serve American's, so it should change its name to Latino Civil Liberties Union. They obviously hate legal American's!

It's about time someone stood up to those crooks! They have been using the law to steal from people for years. They are the pioneers of frivolous lawsuits. They are an organization of fall down and sue. They are ambulance chasers. They are out finding people to make a case with and coaching them all the way. Look at little Illian 2. He's being worked on as we speak. That is an exploited child. His mother has used him and now he is the poster child for the ACLU. That's deplorable!

That's the nicest thing I have to say about them.
