Legalizing illegal immigrants is the solution to Obamacare: Democrat

    By Stephen Dinan
    The Washington Times
    Friday, November 15, 2013

Rep. Jared Polis said Friday the key problem with health care right now is that illegal immigrants aren't included in Obamacare, and said part of the solution is to pass a bill granting them citizenship rights.

The House is debating a GOP-written bill that would allow Americans to keep their health plans that have been canceled under Obamacare, but Mr. Polis, a Colorado Democrat, said the chamber should instead be looking at ways to make sure everyone in the country is covered by the Affordable Care Act — including illegal immigrants.

"American citizens are essentially being forced to pay for the health care costs of people who are here illegally every day, until we pass comprehensive immigration reform," he said. "We're wondering why rates are going up. … It's no surprise. When somebody doesn't have insurance, their costs are shifted onto other people that do."

Illegal immigrants are one of the few categories of people in the U.S. who aren't subjected to Obamacare's individual mandate requiring all people to have health insurance coverage. They also aren't eligible for taxpayer subsidies to buy insurance on the health exchanges, nor are they supposed to be getting assistance under Medicaid.

But Mr. Polis said leaving them outside of the health mandate means that they end up using emergency care, but don't end up paying their own bills — leaving the rest of the country to pick up those costs.

He said the solution is to pass House Democrats' bill, which would grant a long-term pathway to citizenship for most illegal immigrants. The legislation is known by its bill number, House Res. 15

"If we can pass HR, 15 people who are here illegally will have to get insurance on their own instead of forcing Americans to pay for their insurance," Mr. Polis said.

His comments come two days after House Speaker John A. Boehner ruled out taking up a broad bill such as the one Democrats wrote. Mr.Boehner said the House will operate on its own timeline and won't even enter into negotiations with Senate Democrats on their broad legalization bill.

The issue of how to handle illegal immigrants and health care has dogged both the health debate and the immigration debate.

Indeed, a bipartisan group trying to negotiate a broad immigration bill in the House failed in part because the lawmakers involved couldn't agree on how to handle health care costs associated with illegal immigrants who would be granted legal status.

The Congressional Budget Office said that passing the Senate's version of the immigration bill, which would legalize illegal immigrants and expand legal immigration by granting millions of new green cards, would end up costing $82.3 billion over the next decade in higher Obamacare subsidies.

But those would mostly be going to new legal immigrants. Illegal immigrants wouldn't be eligible for Obamacare until after they gain green cards, which would come in a decade.

Dem logic: Turning illegals into citizens will cure Obamacare

November 15, 2013 by Joe Saunders
    bizpacreview.com

A Colorado Democrat says making illegal aliens legal is the way to save Obamacare from disaster.

There just aren’t enough Americans being fleeced by the system as it is.

illegalaliens1115According to U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, D-Col., establishing a path to citizenship for people who enter the country illegally will help the government catch them in the Obamacare dragnet along with the rest of America.

“American citizens are essentially being forced to pay for the health care costs of people who are here illegally every day, until we pass comprehensive immigration reform,” he said, according to the Washington Times. “We’re wondering why rates are going up. … It’s no surprise. When somebody doesn’t have insurance, their costs are shifted onto other people that do.”

He can forget comprehensive immigration reform. Regardless of all the “civil rights” drivel mouthed by people like Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., over the summer, House Speaker John Boehner on Wednesday pronounced the issue is dead.

“I’ll make clear we have no intention of going to conference on the Senate bill,” he said, according to CNN.

But dreamers like Polis keep dreaming.

Elected in 2008, Polis was part of the Democratic majority in both houses of Congress that pushed Obamacare into law during the disastrous two years of 2009-10. His website still brags about supporting it.

“If we can pass [immigration reform], people who are here illegally will have to get insurance on their own instead of forcing Americans to pay for their insurance,” Polis said.

That’s Democrat reasoning. One huge, unwieldy and complicated law – Obamacare – is turning out to be a disaster, and the liberal response is to inflict another huge, unwieldy and complicated law – immigration reform – onto the American public to improve things.

Most people want to become American citizens so they and their children can enjoy the fruits of being full members of the greatest country on earth.

Polis wants to make illegal aliens American citizens so Democrats can treat them as shabbily as Obamacare is trying to treat the rest of us.

What a bonehead. NO, Mr Polis. What this country needs is our immigration laws strictly enforced, and our government to keep it's sticky hands out of the health insurance business.

These people are so detached from reality! The reason they really want the illegal aliens turned into citizens is because our current citizens wont vote for them anymore but the illegal aliens will in return for giving them our jobs and belongings and nation!

Democrat Wants Amnesty so Illegal Immigrants Can Enroll in Obamacare

by Tony Lee 16 Nov 2013, 1:10 PM PDT 340 post a comment
    breitbart.com

A Colorado Democrat who wanted Obamacare waivers for some of the country's wealthiest patrons of ski resorts wants the law's individual mandate to apply to today's illegal immigrants, which can only happen if they are given a pathway to citizenship.

Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) said on Friday that the House should pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for all of the country's illegal immigrants so they could get on Obamacare.

“American citizens are essentially being forced to pay for the health care costs of people who are here illegally every day, until we pass comprehensive immigration reform,” he said. “We’re wondering why rates are going up... It’s no surprise. When somebody doesn’t have insurance, their costs are shifted onto other people that do.”

Last month, Polis said he would ask for Obamacare waivers for residents of some of the wealthiest ski resort town in his state of Colorado. As the Washington Times noted, "illegal immigrants are one of the few categories of people in the U.S. who aren’t subjected to Obamacare’s individual mandate requiring all people to have health insurance coverage." Illegal immigrants also "aren’t eligible for taxpayer subsidies" to buy Obamacare on the insurance exchanges.

Polis said if the House can pass a pathway to citizenship for the country's illegal immigrants, "people who are here illegally will have to get insurance on their own instead of forcing Americans to pay for their insurance."

This week, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and other House leaders ruled out going to conference on the Senate's immigration bill this year, but those who are championing a pathway to citizenship for the country's illegal immigrants--like Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)--have indicated they will make one more push for the legislation after the Republican primaries next year.

The Congressional Budget Office determined that the pathway to citizenship provision in the Senate's immigration bill would lower the wages of working class Americans and "end up costing $82.3 billion over the next decade in higher Obamacare subsidies."

Dem Congressman: Only By Passing Comprehensive Immigration Reform Can We Fix Obamacar

Dem Congressman: Only By Passing Comprehensive Immigration Reform Can We Fix Obamacare

    Daniel Doherty | Nov 18, 2013
    townhall.com

Let me get this straight. One respected political commentator is already hinting at the fact that Obamacare’s many failures (and we’re not even talking about the embarrassing rollout here, either) could very well bring about “the collapse of American liberalism.” And yet, somehow, a progressive Congressman from Colorado still believes this administration has the credibility, capacity, and competency to successfully enact comprehensive immigration reform?

    Keep dreaming, pal:

Rep. Jared Polis said Friday the key problem with health care right now is that illegal immigrants aren’t included in Obamacare, and said part of the solution is to pass a bill granting them citizenship rights.

Good luck getting that legislation passed, buddy. By the way, this whole time I thought the most pressing problem in America today was that individuals and families, all of whom were promised they could keep their insurance plans and their doctors, are finding out they can’t. Meanwhile, their “new” and “better” plans (as they were sold and peddled to them by duplicitous Democrats) are more expensive and unaffordable. Hey, Rep. Polis: Shouldn’t we be solving those problems first before experimenting with another big government overhaul?

That said, Guy is of course right: an administration that deceived, misled, equivocated, and ultimately lied to the American public over Obamacare cannot be trusted to reform our immigration system “comprehensively.” But this isn’t to say that immigration reform itself is a non-starter, nor should it be. On the contrary, there are a few conservative proposals out there that, in theory, would begin addressing some of these issues if they were adopted. But having O & Co. at the helm of such efforts would be a fool’s errand for obvious reasons, not to mention politically impossible.

House Speaker John Boehner has tabled the Senate-passed immigration reform bill until further notice. The earliest the House would take up immigration reform, he said, is next year. Ironically, the pro-amnesty progressives in Congress who desperately want to see their efforts come to fruition might not be around to make a difference. Why, you ask? Because they voted for Obamacare. Have you seen the polls lately?

Maybe when we’re finished picking up the pieces from that mess, immigration reform will see the light of day. Until then, Rep. Polis’ blanket amnesty efforts are going to have to wait.
