PHOENIX -- A home packed with suspected illegal immigrants was discovered Thursday when police responding to a shots-fired call saw people running from a home, Phoenix police said.

Officers were sent to the west Phoenix neighborhood just after 1 p.m., Detective Stacie Derge said. Several people were running away, and officers investigating the home found about 60 people inside.

Police detained the people, including 4 or 5 women and two teenage boys, and called federal immigration agents to take them into custody, Derge said.

Several of the people had cuts and bruises from jumping over fences in an effort to get away, Derge said.

There was no evidence that shots were fired and none of the people were armed, Derge said. The investigation was turned over the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
