There is no doubt that the United States is a nation mostly of immigrants. And most people don’t object to the idea that people continue to immigrate to the U.S. from every country of the world. In fact, most communities in the U.S. have taken steps such as setting up English-teaching programs to make sure that immigrants are absorbed into the social and economic structure with maximum efficiency.

But it comes to illegal immigration across land borders, a phenomenon that has clearly become a serious issue on the border with Mexico, opinions are divided.

On May 23, The Washington Times reported on a congressional report saying that deploying 36,000 National Guardsmen or state militia along the Mexican border would stop the flow of illegal immigrants.
