Republican governor Steve Poizner hopeful found an enthusiastic, overflow audience of about 100 at Villa Park City Hall this evening, as he touted his anti-illegal immigration positions, his support among Tea Party members, and his proposed 10-percent cuts to income, corporate and sales taxes.

Unlike GOP rival Meg Whitman’s Little Saigon rally earlier in the day, Poizner had no Democratic demonstrators at his event. Union members backing likely Democratic nominee Jerry Brown have already begun targeting Whitman because they consider her the likely GOP victor and the biggest threat to Brown.

Using a town hall format, Poizner discussed his support of Arizona’s new immigration law and his desire to cut all public benefits to illegal immigrants – including public education. Whitman opposes the new law and supports educating all children. The sign behind Poizner was patterned with the slogan, “No Amnesty. Stop Illegal Immigration.â€
