Police Arrest 2 in Las Vegas Luxor Bombing Case

    May 11, 2007 08:35 PM MST

Police have arrested 32-year-old Omar Rueda-Denvers, who is from Panama.

Police also arrested 27-year-old Porfirro Durate-Herrera, a Nicaraguan.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the bombing at the Luxor that killed 24-year-old Wuilibaldo Dorantes Antonio.

Police have arrested 32-year-old Omar Rueda-Denvers, who is from Panama. They also arrested 27-year-old Porfirro Durate-Herrera, a Nicaraugan. Police say both men are in the country illegally.

Metro held a late Friday morning news conference to discuss the arrests of the men. Police say the motive for the crime was a love triangle and domestic violence. They say that the victim was dating one of the suspect's former girlfriends. That girlfriend, who had previously dated Omar Rueda-Denvers, was the female employee he was with who witnessed the explosion.

Police say Rueda-Denvers had been kicked off the Luxor property several times in recent months for harassing the woman. Police say she had a child with Rueda-Denvers and would not let him see the child. He was most recently kicked off of the Luxor property two months ago.

Once Metro released pictures from the surveillance video on Thursday of the suspect car, the case took off. Metro says it belongs to Denvers ex-girlfriend, and he stole it that night.

Once that connection was made, Metro stopped Denvers at Pebble and Bermuda in his Mazada truck. Searching the truck led police to Herrera.

"This was a very cold calculated planned attack, and we are happy today to be able to have these two people under arrest and in custody," said Lt. Lew Roberts of Metro Homicide.

Denvers was arrested during the traffic stop, but Metro police searched the apartment where he lived on Rawhide. Police also searched Herrera's home near Eastern and Washington. Lt. Roberts says both places they collected evidence tying the two to the bombing. Police even found bomb making materials.

Wuilibaldo Dorantes Antonio was killed following an explosion in the upper level of the Luxor parking garage around 4 a.m. Monday morning. Police say that Dorantes Antonio noticed a cup on the roof of his car and when he went to remove it, it exploded.

Brother Sheds Light on Luxor Bombing Victim's Life

    May 11, 2007 11:29 AM MST

The family of Wuilibaldo Dorantes Antonio is trying to figure out why their loved one was targeted. Antonio is the man killed by a small bomb at the Luxor parking garage on Monday.

Thursday, Eyewitness News talked to Antonio's older brother, Miguel. Both came to valley looking for work. Up until about two weeks ago, they even worked together at Nathan's World Famous Hot Dogs inside the Luxor.

You don't even need to see their faces to understand the grief the family of Wuilibaldo Dorantes Antonio is going through. His brother Miguel says Wuilibaldo was his best friend.

Miguel said, "We were brothers, we were friends. We lived togeher. I would cook for him, he would cook for me."

Wuilibaldo was working two jobs, Miguel explained, to bring his one-year-old son from Mexico to the United States.

"He left a son he never got to meet. He came here and his son was still in Mexico. But this is why he was working so hard, to get all of his family here," Miguel said.

Both brothers worked together at the last place Wuilibaldo was seen alive inside the Luxor.

Miguel continued, "We didn't come here looking for death. We came here looking for a future. This is all we wanted. We came here for a better way of life, somewhere to earn money and make a living not to die.

Miguel says he knew of no enemies his brother might have had. "I never knew of anything he did wrong. He had two jobs and really didn't have time to meet anyone or make anyone mad. He would to go work and home. Some days he worked 16 to 17 hours."

For Miguel, the loss of his brother makes it's tough to go home. "This is very painful. We used to eat together, now when I eat I feel alone. Why would someone do this to him, to anyone?"

Miguel also answered to reports that say his brother lived a double life having a girlfriend in Las Vegas and in Mexico. He says his brother only had one wife, she's the mother of their child, and she lived in Las Vegas.

The family was hoping to see Wuilibaldo's body Thursday, but the funeral home is still preparing him for the services. They tell Eyewitness News they should be able to see him sometime Friday.

Miguel says his parents are still in Puebla, Mexico waiting for the remains of their son.

Memorial services for Wuilibaldo Dorantes Antonio are tentatively set for Monday, May 14th at Nevada Funeral Service on Fremont Street.

Yea i really feel safer since 9/11...if these guys could build a bomb and detonate it in one of the most highly watched areas in the country, who else could perpetrate an even larger explosion

A dirty nuclear device the size of a trunk could just as easily have been detonated and taken out a good portion of Las Vegas and killed 100,000 plus. I know in my gut that it is just a matter of time before a small group of terrorists make this a reality. We have only George Bush and the corporations seeking cheap labor to blame. Practically speaking, nothing has been done to secure our borders or ports since 9/11.

Police arrest 2 after Las Vegas bombing

LAS VEGAS -- Two men were arrested Friday in a deadly Las Vegas Strip bombing that police believe was tied to a tangle of romantic relationships.

Authorities arrested Omar Rueda-Denvers, 32, on charges of murder with the use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon and possession of an explosive device.

Police said Rueda-Denvers, a Panamanian, targeted the victim, an immigrant worker at a hot dog stand, and the victim's girlfriend, who had an earlier relationship with Rueda-Denvers.

Police also arrested a 27-year-old Nicaraguan construction worker, Porfirro Duarte Herrera, at his home on the east side of Las Vegas. They described him as an associate of Rueda-Denvers, but did not detail how they believe he was involved in the bombing.

Herrera was being held Friday for being an alien in possession of a firearm, but police said they expect to file more charges. The victim was in the country illegally from Mexico and both suspects are illegal immigrants, police said.

"This was a very cold, calculated, planned attack," said Las Vegas Police Lt. Lewis Roberts. "These are very, very bad individuals."

Police believe the men planted a small bomb on the top of 24-year-old Willebaldo Dorantes Antonio's car, while he worked at a Nathan's Famous hot dog stand early Monday inside the Luxor hotel-casino.

When Dorantes Antonio returned to the parking lot at about 4 a.m., accompanied by his girlfriend, he picked the device up and it exploded, blowing a 12-inch hole in his

1996 Dodge Stratus. Dorantes Antonio died at a hospital about two hours later of a head injury.

The woman, whom police have not named, escaped injury. Police described her as Dorantes Antonio's girlfriend and co-worker at the hot dog stand, as well as the mother of Rueda-Denvers' child.

They said Rueda-Denvers and the woman had been arguing over his right to see the child. Rueda-Denvers was kicked off Luxor property two months ago, said Carla Alston, a police spokeswoman.

Police said they do not believe the woman was involved in the bomb plot, and are considering her a target, not a suspect. She was in the country illegally and has been in the custody of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, pending deportation to Guatemala.

Blurry still photographs of a car seen next to Dorantes Antonio's in the Luxor parking garage that was captured by surveillance cameras led to the arrests, police said.

Calls from the public helped identify the car as a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, which is registered to another of Rueda-Denvers' former girlfriends. The car was stopped Thursday afternoon. Police said they do not believe the woman was involved in the bombing.

Rueda-Denvers was taken into custody shortly afterward while driving a vehicle not far from his home south of the Las Vegas Strip, police said.

An apartment complex where he worked as the maintenance manager and his home were searched. Police said materials that could have been used to make the bomb were found in the home, but would not comment further.

Roberts said nothing in the suspects' backgrounds indicated they had experience making bombs.

I need a playbook for this one.

    Omar has child with girlfriend.

Omar blows up Wuilibaldo because he's dating Omar's former girlfriend-the mother of his child.

Wuilibaldo saving money to bring his year old son from Mexico.

Wuilibaldo has only one wife in Las Vegas (a girlfriend too if I'm reading correctly) but the child is in Mexico.

Looks like more of the infamous "family values."

Does anybody want a hot dog?

CCUSA, Wuilibaldo Dorantes Antonio was a Mexican National who illegally crossed into the US with his brother and they both worked at the Luxor selling Nathan's Hot Dogs.

Thank you mapwife for clearing that up as that was the question I would ask. So they are all here illegally and bringing this crime into our country. Why did they not arrest the brother of the victim for being here illegally?
