Santa Fe police have arrested two suspects in connection with last weekend’s kidnapping and slashing of a 24-year-old man.

Anthony Baca, 30, and Sheryl Salcido, 20, were arrested on Hopewell Street around 11 p.m. Saturday after police stopped a black 2007 Ford Fusion with a Locote Tattoo emblem on the window, which the victim has described, Capt. Gary Johnson said. Inside the car, police saw what they believed to be blood near a passenger side door, Johnson said.

Police had been looking for what they believed was a green Nissan with the same emblem. Donald Nuñez had been forced into a car at knife point early Saturday morning while he was walking along West Alameda Street, Johnson said. Johnson said that at around 2 a.m. Saturday the kidnappers drove Nuñez to Paseo del Vista and North El Rancho Road, where one slashed him in the throat before Nuñez got away.

Johnson said police are still investigating other details of the attack. Nuñez didn’t report the attack for 17 hours after it occurred for fear of retaliation from members of a street gang, the West Side Locos, Johnson said. Nuñez’s mother talked him into getting medical attention for the wound to his throat and calling police, Johnson said.

Baca was held on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and conspiracy. Salcido was held on charges of kidnapping, conspiracy and tampering with evidence.

Johnson said investigators don’t believe others were involved in the kidnapping.
