ELGIN -- Police arrested six men Thursday in connection with alleged mob action that is believed to be gang-related.

Officers responded around 3:45 p.m. to a report of six men with baseball bats chasing a vehicle in the 200 block of South Alfred Avenue, according to reports.

Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of a vehicle with six male passengers, and during a search of the car found a wooden baseball bat, a wooden stick, a wooden cane, a metal pipe, four glass beer bottles and a loaded BB-gun, according to reports.

Police said the men stated that members of a rival gang struck their vehicle earlier, and that they returned to the area with weapons in retaliation.

Miguel Garcia, 18, of 1653 Mulberry Court, Unit 13; Luis Vargas, 17, of 1643 Mulberry Court, Unit 2; Ricardo Murillo, 19, of 1653 Mulberry, Unit 1; and Jose C Rodiguez, 18, of 1653 Mulberry, Unit 13, each was charged with misdemeanor mob action.

Eighteen-year-old Omar Rosete of 11 Millicent Court, South Elgin, also was charged with mob action, and given citations charging him with driving while license suspended and possession of an air pistol within the city.

The identity of the sixth man arrested was withheld by police.

Vargas was released Thursday night after posting a $100 bond. Murillo and Rodriguez were released on their own recognizance. Rosete and Garcia were being held awaiting extradition proceedings by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
