Angela Celaya Gonzalez, 29, is being charged with four counts of second-degree murder.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- Police have arrested an Eloy woman who they say was the driver of a car that crashed near Casa Grande last week, killing four illegal immigrants.

Police took Angela Celaya Gonzalez, 29, into custody after she was released from St. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday morning. Gonzalez was being treated for several injuries she received during the crash, which happened at about 1 a.m. on May 2.

U.S. Border Patrol and Homeland Security were following a pair of vehicles driving in tandem, one of which they believed was carrying illegal immigrants.

Gonzalez lost control of one of the vehicles as she tried to make a turn and crashed in the yard of a home near Third Avenue and Florence Street.

There were 11 people in the 2001 Dodge Durango, 10 of whom were believed to be illegal immigrants. One of the passengers was thrown from the vehicle on impact.

Three people inside the Durango were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth died at Maricopa Medical Center.

Gonzalez was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail and is being charged with four counts of second-degree murder.

Her bond is set at $2 million. She will be transported to Pinal County Jail later Tuesday.
