    Police: Arrests break cocaine-dealing ring

The arrests of three Mexican illegal aliens Thursday in Carmel disrupted the operations of a major cocaine-dealing ring in the Indianapolis area, authorities said.

The commander of the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force in charge of the investigation suspects the impact will be shortlived.
"A lot of the illegal aliens right now are controlling the vast majority of cocaine trafficking in this area," said Maj. Randy Schalburg.
"These are just three players. The list goes on, and I believe there are hundreds more out there."

The men arrested Thursday -- including two who were expecting to sell half a kilogram of powder cocaine at a busy Carmel-area restaurant -- were Indianapolis residents Victor Gutierres, 33, Aurelio Robles, 29, and Jose Ochoa.

They are each charged with felony cocaine dealing.
Schalburg, whose detectives were assisted by Indiana State Police aerial surveillance, said the arrests followed a series of drug buys that began last month.

The investigation was prompted by a suspect in another case who implicated Gutierres. After Gutierres was contacted by an investigator posing as a customer, surveillance led to Robles as Gutierres' supplier and Ochoa as Robles' source.

Schalburg said the three have been living in the area for up to five years, and that neither Ochoa or Robles could provide evidence of recent employment.

"We believe, obviously, this comes from Mexico, either by truck or another vehicle," Schalburg said of cocaine the three men have allegedly sold.
He said several sales had been made to Hamilton County customers, according to the informant.

Undercover operatives were able to engage the suspects in five cocaine deals, said Schalburg, who described Thursday's arranged buy at 106th Street and Michigan Road as an undercover deal for half a kilogram of cocaine from Gutierres and Robles, who had allegedly received the drugs from Ochoa.

"They were expecting $13,000 to be delivered to them," said Schalburg.
Instead, they were busted and the cocaine was seized. Warrants served on their homes and a business led to additional seizures of the drug, thousands of dollars in cash, two rifles, six handguns and three vehicles.
Evidence in the case includes indications that the three men had fabricated social security numbers and identification documents.
Carmel and Indianapolis police and the Metro Drug Task Force also participated in the investigation.
