The owners of a dog that police say was killed Sunday morning by their neighbor are left with questions after reading about its death on the Internet.
“We thought he had run away,” Rolanda Jackson said.
After reading a story Monday on the Jail Report, Jackson learned that Zuru, her family’s Rottweiler-pit bull terrier mix, had died and that their neighbor, Pablo Cesar Chaves, 35, was facing charges.
According to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report, police were called to 2006 Chester Ave. around 2 a.m. Sunday for trouble with a neighbor’s dog. At the residence, police met with Chaves, who told them he did not make the call but did shoot his neighbor’s dog twice with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Deputies found a red chain saw with dog hair and blood on it near the black dog’s body, which had a large cut on its neck. Police said Chaves had blood on his pants and hands, the report stated.
According to the report, Chaves said he did not remember what happened after he shot the dog. The report did not say why Chaves shot the animal.
Animal control workers removed the dog after they were unable to reach the owner.
“I couldn’t believe that he did it,” Jackson said.
Jackson, who lives with her mother, said they had had the dog for protection for seven years, which was never an issue with neighbors.
An incident report was filed in 2008, however, after two “black Rottweiler dogs” jumped the fence into Chaves’ backyard and fought with his Chihuahua. The report states the dogs were believed to belong to Chaves’ neighbor.
A family member at Chaves’ home said their lawyer had advised them not to comment.
Chaves was booked into Richmond County jail on charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and discharge of a firearm on or near a public highway.
Chaves has a hold on him from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

He thought he was going to cut that dog up and dispose of it without getting caught. After all, our government has shown him he can break numerous laws such as breaking into America illegally, stealing someone's identity, working a job it is illegal for him to have, etc....
What is one more law against killing your neighbors dog right?
If they pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty this year, most of the people in America will be living next to someone with equally alien beliefs and practices.
