Police: Homeowner ducked the law

FRAMINGHAM -- A Framingham woman who is accused of hosting and recruiting patients for a Brazilian couple who authorities say performed a deadly liposuction in her basement Sunday was nearly bailed out Wednesday, according to a police source.
Family and friends had raised the $25,000 bail to free Ana Celia Pena Sielemann from MCI-Framingham, the source said, but decided against paying the money after they found out the federal Immigration Customs Enforcement agency had taken out an immigration detainer against her.
That means if the bail was paid, Sielemann would be released from county and state custody but immediately taken into federal custody, the source said.
ICE spokeswoman Paula Grenier confirmed yesterday the agency has taken out detainers not only for Sielemann, but for Luiz Carlos Ribeiro and his wife, Ana Maria Miranda Ribeiro, 49, who are also being held after the death Sunday.
Also, Grenier said, Sielemann has been wanted on a final order of deportation since 2001.
Sielemann was arrested Tuesday, the day after the Ribeiros were arrested. She was charged with the distribution of rohypnol, which in Latin America and Europe is used for insomnia and pre-anesthesia medication but is not legal in the United States, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Web site. She is also charged with distribution of clonazepam, which is most commonly used to control seizures or relieve anxiety.
Authorities claim she was giving the drugs to women having surgery performed by Ribeiro as an anesthetic.
Sielemann allowed the Ribeiros to use her condo at 201 Bishop Drive to perform unlicensed plastic surgeries, authorities say. They say she was paid by the couple for the use of her basement and actively recruited patients.
On Sunday, Fabiola B. DePaula, 24, of Framingham, died after she underwent a liposuction procedure in Sielemann’s apartment.
The Ribeiros were arrested Monday. Both faced several drug charges, while Luiz Ribeiro was charged with the unlicensed practice of medicine.
Authorities say the Ribeiros have been coming to the country for three years to perform illegal plastic surgeries. Prosecutor Lee Hettinger said Sielemann had allowed the Ribeiros to use her basement for a price.
No one has been charged with DePaula’s death. Authorities said additional charges could be brought, pending the results of an autopsy. The Middlesex district attorney’s office said toxicology tests have not been completed.
Both Ribeiros are being held on bail. Ana Maria is being held at MCI-Framingham, along with Sielemann, on $50,000 bail, while Luiz Ribeiro is being held at the Middlesex Jail in Cambridge on $250,000 bail.

THEY ALL DUCK THE LAW!!! HELLO???

They are here illegally, doing surgery in their basement and someone like me wouldn't be able to sell Avon to fellow employees during lunch hour at a min. wage job. I don't know how they are able to do all this stuff so easily.

The state of MA does nothing to enforce our laws with regards to illegal aliens with the exception of Milford which has been in the news and had to take their own action. Framingham where this took place is loaded with them. I have written to our Mayor and our Governor many times with regards to this issue and have gotten no response from the Mayor and only one lame response from the Governor (who is running for president in 200. As far as I am concerned and from what I see MA is a sanctuary state for illegal aliens with the exception of Milford. Our Mayor is so lame that he cannot even stop the murders that occur daily in a 5 block radius in Boston and he refused the assistance of the State Police offer by the Governor as it would cut overtime for our totally lame Boston Police Department and the troopers would enforce immigration laws of which our Mayor is against.
