Police: Intruder killed child while parents slept

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- A 29-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly sexually assaulted and killed a 3-year-old girl early Saturday morning as her family slept inside their South Sioux City home.

Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City notified South Sioux City police around 5 a.m. after a 3-year-old girl was brought to the facility and pronounced dead on arrival, South Sioux City Police Chief Scot Ford said. Ford said the girl's mother discovered her after waking to feed another infant child.

"The perp broke into the house, sexually assaulted the child by raping and sodomizing her and then the child was killed. We believe by suffocation," Ford said. "The parents and two other family members were asleep at the residence when this occurred."

Police said another young child who was at the home, which police described as small but with at least two bedrooms, helped them identify the suspect as De Jesus Melisio-Camacho, who was living in Sioux City with several other men. Melisio-Camacho is charged with first-degree murder, sexual assault and burglary, all felonies.

Ford said police and officials with Immigration Customs Enforcement are examining Melisio-Camacho's immigration status.

Ford said an officer stopped Melisio-Camacho near the home at 3:45 a.m. Saturday but let him go, unaware of the crime he's accused of committing. That contact, however, helped police put the suspect in the area when they believe the crime occurred, between 1 and 3:30 a.m.

Ford said it has been determined the suspect was an acquaintance of the family, but a motive is not yet known.

"We do not have an actual motive at this point," Ford said. "That is probably one of the most exasperating parts of it."

Ford declined to offer more information regarding the case.

Sioux City Police Sgt. Mike Post said the suspect was found and taken into custody prior to 6 a.m. in Sioux City.

"The cooperation on this investigation was just outstanding," Ford said. "We had extreme cooperation from the Sioux City Police Department, Mercy's Child Advocacy Center, Nebraska State Patrol and from ICE officials out of Sioux City."

Melisio-Camacho is being held for Nebraska in the Woodbury County Jail.

Ford said officials will be filing extradition warrants to return the suspect to Nebraska, but there isn't a timeframe because of the holiday weekend.

"We don't know if he'll waive or fight extradition," he said. "At this point we are continuing to gather and analyze physical evidence in preparation of the case against him."

This sicko creep probably suffocated her to keep her quiet. We need to rid this country of this scum.

If this guy is found guilty he should be found one morning in his cell suffocated by his own organ stuffed down his throat with a suicide note found nearby.

Responding to a comment on the source article defending the ILLEGAL by suggesting she could have been murdered by a citizen and the ILLEGAL status does not make a difference.

"Yes, Citizens do commit crimes but resources that could be utilized fighting these crimes are diverted in an attempt to protect U.S. Citizens from the never ending crimes of the ILLEGALS and their Anchors. A little girl is dead because an ILLEGAL was in the United States; if he were not in the U.S. ILLEGALLY the little girl would be alive or at the very least not the victim of this brutal murder by the ILLEGAL!."

I notice how you pro-criminal alien people are deliberately ignoring the fact that this is an ADDITIONAL crime to our society. That girl would still be alive today if the government had done it's job and the pro-criminal alien people had not encouraged third-world animals like De Jesus Melisio-Camacho to bring their third-world mindsets into our country.

Criminal alien supporters are trying to exonerate themselves from aiding and abetting the ADDITIONAL criminals they are helping into our country by making excuses for them....It's not working.

They don't know the MOTIVE yet? Isn't it obvious???

Illegal alien monster. This horrible crime would never have happened if that animal wasnt in America illegally. He doesnt even deserve a trial. Just hang him.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Authorities call it a "violent murder."

A three year old girl is raped, sodomized, and killed, and her alleged murderer is in custody.

The South Sioux City Police Department received a call around quarter to five this morning from Sioux City's Mercy Medical Center.

Officials there told police that a 3-year-old girl, whose name is not being released, arrived at the hospital dead.

Authorities say the crime took place inside the girl's home, a location that is still being withheld.

Within two to three hours they found 29 year old De Jesus Melecio-Camacho in a Sioux City home.

He's been charged with Sexual Assault of a Child, First Degree Murder and burglary.

Authorities say they are still looking for a motive.

" We do not believe that he is related in any manner by blood, we do believe that he is familiar to the family, they know who he is and have contact with him before and he with the family," South Sioux City Police Chief Scot Ford said.

Immigration officials were involved in the arrest. While police say Melecio-Camacho doesn't have deep roots in the community they're unsure if he's a U-S citizen.

Authorities won't say how he gained access to the girl's home and where that home is located.
