ROBSTOWN — An undocumented immigrant was arrested in Robstown after police say he led them on a high-speed chase, shot at an officer, crashed his girlfriend's car and later showed up at a police station early Sunday.

About 2 a.m. officials tried to pull over a red Dodge Avenger for reckless driving at Highway 44 and Violet Road, said Sgt. Edward Day with Nueces County Constable Precinct 5. The driver didn't pull over, instead he led several local and county law enforcement agencies through Robstown at speeds up to 100 mph, officials said.

An officer pursued the Avenger through Robstown and down County Road 83. When the officer returned to the Robstown city limits, at least one shot was fired at the vehicle, Day said.

The chase continued for several miles before the driver lost control of the car at Farm-to-Market Road 1889 and County Road 44. The car struck a telephone pole, flipped and went up in flames. When officers approached the burning car, they found it empty.

As they investigated, they learned the Avenger had been reported stolen by his girlfriend. She was called to the Nueces County Constable Precinct 5 office to provide more information about the theft. Outside, officials found her boyfriend, Juan Francisco Rodriguez, 23, sitting in the vehicle Luna arrived in.

The woman was questioned and eventually arrested on suspicion of providing false information to a peace officer, a misdemeanor. She was being held on $500 bail.

Police linked Rodriguez to the chase and he was arrested on suspicion of attempted capital murder while evading arrest in a motor vehicle, reckless driving and failure to remain at the scene of an accident. He was being held in Nueces County Jail without the possibility of bail.
