A fast-growing illegal influx from India

    SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The nation's fastest-growing group of illegal immigrants is not one that would readily come to mind.
Turning stereotypes on their head, a recent federal analysis of unauthorized immigration says the most rapidly growing source of illegal immigration is India - the same country whose engineers and programmers help power Silicon Valley companies such as Google, whose doctors heal the sick, and whose entrepreneurs and venture capitalists have become a force on both sides of the international date line.

The Homeland Security Department estimates there are 270,000 unauthorized Indian natives in the United States - a 125 percent jump since 2000, the largest percentage increase of any nation with more than 100,000 illegal immigrants in the United States.

The number of undocumented Indians is dwarfed by the estimated 6.6 million illegal residents from Mexico, according to estimates from the federal Office of Immigration Statistics.

Virtually all entered the United States legally but violated the terms of their visas, experts who study the immigration system say.

Indians are among the most affluent ethnic groups in the United States, with a median household income that is 62 percent higher than the figure for all U.S. households.

A lot of that affluence came from stealing jobs from Americans using fake resumes and workplace back stabbing...

I was wondering why I was seeing more of them--especially at the electronics stores.

Indians are the fastest-growing group of illegal immigrants in the United States, stated a Department of homeland Security report in February 2008. The report says there are 2,70,000 unauthorized Indians in the United States - a 125 percent jump since 2000, the largest percentage increase of any nation with more than 100,000 illegal immigrants in that country. The report says though the number of Indian immigrants is low when compared to people from Mexico, the Indian context is appalling as the illegal immigrants mostly consist high-skilled workers. Illegal immigrants from other countries are mostly low-skilled workers. If the trend continues India will only trail only Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala in illegal immigration. The report quoting experts says virtually all immigrants enter the US legally and then violate the visa terms, thus becomimg illegal immigrants. "They come here as professionals, most often in the H-1B program, and given the fluctuations of Silicon Valley, the business climate, these guys lose their jobs. They get laid off or they wager their hands on a start-up coming in."

"The problem with the H-1B program is, you can't have any significant time between jobs" without falling out of legal status. “Indians made up 44 percent of H-1B applicants in the 2005-06 fiscal year, five times the number from second-place China, the report says. The report says another source is relatives from India who arrive for a visit on a tourist visa and never go home. http://www.rediff.com/news/2008/feb/19us.htm

They can really horn into an area.

They will be very nice and polite to your face and then stomp and bang on the walls in the middle of the night. They can make peoples lives a living hell until they have taken over whole cities.

I went to the police to complain about the noise and other problems. The police told me maybe we should have a public meeting. I told him I think they already have had one.

Many of them where here on some sort of H2B visas. They displaced a whole city full of computer programmers out of their jobs.

Not only did they displace the young people that had worked hard in college to qualify for their jobs but they also displaced them out of their homes and city!

Not just with those on the visas displace people but family and extended family from the way it looked.

I stayed until I was ask to leave. I had lived in that apartment complex about 15 years.

In my view, one of the strongest arguments against any increase in legal work visas is that the current situation is out of control.

Until the current situation is fixed (meaning all overstays are identified and sent home), there is no reason to believe that just allowing more in will make that problem go away - because it won't. It will only get worse.

You can make a strong argument against the skilled (and non-skilled, for that matter) visa increase solely on the fact that the system is abused and dysfunctional NOW, and badly needs to be fixed.. and not even mention the "usual" aspects like: relative education levels, pay rates, American-preference policies, etc.

I think they have it down to an art.

Remember they developed this tactic and drove out the British. I'll bet they were very polite to their faces the whole time doing it.
