Politicians making a mockery out of system, chumps of us
    Rudolph M. JIMENEZ

THE front page article in The Argus on Sept. 5, "Mass movements," inspired me to address the immigration issue.

First, this immigration reform fiasco has left many citizens, myself included, with a negative attitude on the subject. It started with the May 1 demonstration/boycott for immigration reform.

This wonderful country of ours is a nation made up of legal immigrants, with the exception of the Native Americans. Therefore, the issue is all about amnesty and rights for illegal immigrants. Being illegal gives them no rights.

When will intellectual bleeding-heart liberals and elites, plus the "drive-by media," face reality and get it right?

The activists boast a million participated nationwide in the demonstration on May 1. What do they suppose the remaining 299 million American citizens were doing?

I and other citizens I've talked to are amazed at the speed the sluggish, overpaid California liberal legislators endorsed the protest without questioning what groups supported it.

Our legislators also used our students as pawns by encouraging them to walk out of schools, thus jeopardizing state school funds. School funding is based on numbers of students present in class each day. Can anyone imagine the financial loss for those school days? Taxpayers' property taxes went down the drain.

Remember that on Nov. 7, when voting for bonds, measures and on increased fees.

I observed many T-shirts with anti-America slogans and pictures of Che Guevera, Cuba's Marxist hero. I saw groups such as ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), another Socialist-leaning group that has no relation to immigration.

I also observed United Farm Workers banners that appeared to me to be out of place. Why? Because in 1969, Csar Chvez led a march to the Mexican border to protest illegal immigration workers.

Joining him, I recollect, was Sen. Walter Mondale and Martin Luther King Jr.'s successor, Ralph Abernathy.

Many demonstrators wave, and still wave, the Mexican flag from the same country that they were forced to flee.

Signs state that "We are not criminals." The bottom line is that they made themselves such by breaking our federal law.

It's obvious Mexican President Vincente Fox (whose name is as Hispanic as Maximilian, the Austrian Emperor of Mexico from 1864 to 1867) has supporters embedded in our political system — local, state, and federal.

He lives up to his name. He is foxy. After May 1, he arrived at the state Capitol in Sacramento and thanked the legislators for a job well done for immigration.

Ever wonder why, year after year, driver's licenses are pushed for illegals? The legislators at present are pushing for free tuition to universities for illegals.

When will the legislation commence caring about the constituents who voted them into office?

I urge all citizens to contact their representatives in Sacramento and request an explanation for all the freebies to illegals at the taxpayers' expense.

Some politicians in Sacramento and Washington are making a mockery out of our political system and chumps out of taxpayers. The same ones in Sacramento keep getting elected again and again. When termed out as assemblymen, they run for state Senate or other departments in the Capitol.

I feel all those demonstrations and marches have changed a lot of minds and attitudes to the negative.

It would be nice if the illegals realized this, or better yet, actually cared about violating our laws. Round 'em up. Ship 'em out. NOW!
