Poll: Bush Approval Hits All-Time Low

Controversy surrounding the U.A.E. ports deal, the continuing war in Iraq and, perhaps, the Dick Cheney hunting accident, are all taking a toll on President Bush’s approval rating.

According to a CBS News poll, the president’s approval rating fell to 34 percent, down from 42 percent last month. It is the lowest rating Bush has received while in the White House.

The War in Iraq seems to be a drag on the president, despite reports by the White House and Pentagon officials about positive developments in that region.

Just 30 percent of those polled approve of how Bush has handled the Iraq war. Americans – by a two-to-one margin – think U.S. efforts to bring stability to Iraq are going badly.

Led by initially negative accounts of the proposed management by a Dubai-based company of terminals at U.S. seaports, the president has lost points in what has traditionally been his strong suit: the war on terror.

Bush’s ratings dropped lower than ever in this area, with 50 percent of Americans disapproving of how he’s handling security issues.

Vice President Dick Cheney’s approval rating, following a quail hunting accident in which he mistakenly shot a prominent Texas attorney, has also dropped from 23 to 18 percent. More than 75 percent of those polled said it was understandable that the hunting accident occurred, however, and two-thirds say media members spent too much time covering the story.

In a separate poll, according to CBS News, two out of three Americans said they do not think President Bush has responded adequately to the needs of Hurricane Katrina victims. Only 32 percent approve of the way President Bush is responding to those needs, a drop of 12 points from last September’s poll, taken just two weeks after the storm made landfall.

I voted for Bush twice but until he starts doing something about illegal immigration (Secure borders NOW, deport illegals, hefty fines for employers of illegals, NO amnesty or guest worker program, no more anchor babies, etc.) he and his administration has totally lost my support.
