Tucson waits for Brewer's action on immigration bill
A sweeping new immigration bill sits on Governor Brewer's desk awaiting her signature or veto. Supporters of the bill say that it will curb illegal immigration, while opponents state that it will result in wide-spread racial profiling.

What do you think about the bill? Is it racist? Is it a good idea? Will it curb illegal immigration? Does it give law enforcement the right to stop a person on suspicion of being an illegal immigration? Is it a step in the right direction? Vote in the poll and let us know your thoughts and interpretations of the bill.

Key passages to the bill:

- "Requires officials and agencies to reasonably attempt to determine the immigration status of a person involved in a lawful contact where reasonable suspicion exists regarding the immigration status of the person, except if the determination may hinder or obstruct an investigation."

- "Stipulates that if the person is arrested, the person's immigration status must be determined before the person is released and must be verified with the federal government."

- Makes it illegal to "transport or move an alien in a means of transportation, or attempt to do so, if the person knows or recklessly disregards the fact that the alien is here unlawfully."

- Makes it illegal to "conceal, harbor or shield an alien, or attempt to, if the person knows or recklessly disregards the fact that the alien is here unlawfully."
