Poll shows 72% oppose licensing illegal immigrants

Nearly one month after Governor Eliot Spitzer announced his intention to offer illegal immigrants the right to apply for driver’s licenses, the debate about the merits of the program continues to dominate the headlines on a daily basis.

On Monday, October 15, State Senate Republicans questioned Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Commissioner David Swarts for nearly four hours grilling him about the proposal while arguing that it would cause an increased terror threat.

However, Swarts continued to echo Spitzer’s sentiments that the policy would make the streets safer as well as decrease auto insurance rates throughout the state.

While leaders on both sides of the political aisle continue to trade barbs over the plan, 72 percent of New Yorkers oppose Governor Spitzer’s plan, according to a Siena (College) Research Institute poll of registered voters released on the same day Swarts testified.

“Nearly three-quarters of voters - including 59 percent of Democrats - oppose the Governor’s plan to give driver’s licenses to undocumented aliens,â€

ILLEGAL ENTRY TO USA
Under Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien," any citizen of any country other than the United States who:
· Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or
· Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
· Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact;


Violations are punishable by criminal fines and imprisonment for up to six months. Repeat offenses can bring up to two years in prison. Additional civil fines may be imposed at the discretion of immigration judges, but civil fines do not negate the criminal sanctions or nature of the offense.
Illegal immigration is tearing America apart and leading to the death of 12-25 Americans per day from the criminal acts of illegals. That is over 4,000 killed per year. Does any America official plan to reimburse the grieving families that suffer due to the illegal aliens BOA helps to stay in America?

According to federal law, it is a felony to knowingly aid and abet illegal aliens. This law goes unenforced as most of our immigration laws are.
The president or any public office holder should be impeached for not securing the American citizen, or the border of the United States.
ANY STATE OF AMERICA who allows non US citizens / undocumented workers/ illegal immigrants a driver license or aid of any kind is a lawbraker also.

Is America the only country that treats criminals better than the victims of that criminal's crimes?
Unless of course, the criminal (might as well call them criminals because 90% of them are treated like they are by the Family Court System) is a non-custodial father who wants to see his kids. Then he is put thru hell just because he wants to spend time with his children.

I am a proud American Vietnam veteran, but I am also a non-custodial father who who has been been put thru the ringer for loving and wanted to be part of my only child's life.

Someone needs to get serious with the liberals who are running out of control accross our country!

New Yorks own county clerks refuse to issue any kind licensing to the criminals ...

Oregon has an abundance of illegal immigrants. Many take an interpreter to the driving test with them. Who knows if the driver is actually taking the drivers test? They use the license to get a job.
Right now there are meetings in Portland regarding re-naming a major North-South Street, Interstate Avenue, for Cesar Chavez.
The local voters are vocal in not wanting to take away the name of the street that connects Portland, Oregon and Vancouver,Washington. There are plans to run the Interstate Max ( mass transit ) Line across the Columbia River to Vancouver, so keeping the name Interstate seems to most of us to be a good idea. I-5 is the freeway connecting the 2 states, with Interstate Avenue running nearby.
The mayor and several commissioners may make the change anyway, though.
Apparently a small group can request a change that impacts hundreds of thousands of commuters and interstate traffic, not to mention all of the owners of homes, and businesses along the street.
5 of the 7 speakers wanting the name change mentioned that those of us who did Not want the name change were racists. No one opposed to the re-naming had made any offending remarks, they just disagreed with the name change. Many of the Pro name-change group were given personal Spanish interpretation devices, so they could understand the discussion.
Immigrants who move to the United States should be here legally, and they should learn English, as immigrants did in the past.
