Federal agents bust fourth fake document mill

March 30, 2010

NORFOLK, Va. - Federal immigration agents have busted what they say is the fourth document mill in recent months.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Fernando Alvarado-Uribe Sunday in Norfolk following a two-month investigation. Another suspect disappeared before agents arrived. Authorities identified him as Alvarado-Uribe's cousin Melesio Munoz-Uribe.

Agents say in court documents filed Monday that Alvarado-Uribe admitted selling counterfeit Social Security cards, driver's licenses and other documents.

Agents tracked his visits to area trailer parks and apartment complexes with high concentrations of immigrants and used informants to buy documents on three occasions.

Alvarado-Uribe was jailed pending a bond hearing Thursday. He is believed to be in the country illegally.
