DHS wants FSM teen removed from NMI

By Ferdie de la Torre

An agency of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security wants a Federated States of Micronesia teenager removed from the CNMI.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed the removal case against 19-year-old Marvin Ringlen, who is notorious for stealing laptops.

Ringlen appeared without a lawyer during an initial hearing before the Saipan U.S. Immigration Court.

Ringlen waived the reading of the charges and asked the court for more time to find a lawyer.

The judge ordered him to return to court on May 20, 2010 at 1pm.

ICE has filed 51 removal cases against mostly Chinese nationals. At least three FSM citizens, including Ringlen, are among the respondents.

In December 2009, the Superior Court convicted Ringlen of breaking into a barracks in San Antonio and stealing a laptop computer on Sept. 5, 2009.

Last January, Ringlen and three other persons were arrested for the burglary at the Fun Fun Central Entertainment Center in Finasisu on June 29, 2009. In that case, two laptop computers were stolen.

Last March, police arrested Ringlen for alleged contempt of court after he was found intoxicated, in violation of the court's pre-trial release conditions.
