US Republicans Hurt Migratory Policy

Washington, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina) Restrictive immigration policies are permanent subjects discussed by the Republicans in the US Congress, La Opinion daily denounced on Monday.

According to the newspaper, the conservatives use repeatedly that strategy to be demagogic or hinder the plans of the Democratic majority.

Two times this week, the budgets of federal agencies were stagnated, faced with demands by the Republican minority, the daily recalled.

The paper cited the agricultural law as an example, stagnated at the Senate, faced with the demand by the government party of analyzing a federal prohibition to keep states from granting driver's licenses to people without legal identification papers.

At the same time, in the law to finance the departments of Trade, Justice, Science, and other agencies, they included a prohibition to prevent the federal Labor Opportunity Commission from taking actions in judicial demands in which there is discrimination due to language, the daily said.

The publication revealed that this strategy shows a miserable attitude by the Republican leadership, which exploits the vulnerability of a sector of the immigrant population and creates general confusion.

La Opinion criticized the White House days ago for this policy.

"Not including the initiative AgJOBS in an agricultural bill, shows continued failure in any reform attempt that sounds, smells or remotely has to do anything with immigrants," an editorial of the daily said then.

Through the AgJOBS, not less than half a million agricultural workers would be legalized.

But, not happy with defeating the AgJOBS, the migratory reform and the DREAM Act, which would have allowed illegal youths continuing their education, some politicians try to implement more restrictions, it concluded.
