Pres. Obama Proposes to Cut 180 Border Patrol Agents

Pres. Obama Proposes to Cut 180 Border Patrol Agents

Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 1:20 PM EST - posted on NumbersUSA

Pres. Barack Obama's newly proposed 2011 budget would reduce the number of Border Patrol agents along the Southwest border by 180 and cut the funding for the "virtual fence." Homeland Security said it plans to cut the jobs through attrition, and it would result in increased pay for the remaining agents.

White House senior officials say the move will not compromise the effectiveness of the border patrol. But House Judiciary Ranking Member Lamar Smith (R-Texas) says otherwise.

The President’s budget proves once again that the Obama administration is not serious about enforcing our nation’s immigration laws.

The administration found money for 25 new positions in the Secretary of Homeland Security’s management office, but didn’t find funds for any of the following critical homeland security programs: there is no funding for a single new detention bed, no increase in funds to find and deport immigration fugitives or criminal aliens, no additional special agents to investigate workplace immigration violations, no funding to expand the visa security program, and no funding to build any more of the border fence.

The President ought to be using immigration enforcement to address key priorities such as jobs and national security. But instead of doing so, the Obama administration is maintaining the status quo. That means that citizens and legal immigrants will be forced to continue to compete with eight million illegal immigrants for jobs; and by underfunding key national security programs, we leave ourselves vulnerable to future terrorists attacks.

The "virtual fence" would have funding cut by $226 million. The system is made up of cameras, radar and sensors placed on towers.

Obama's budget does include an increase of $103 million for improvements to E-Verify.

What Obama's budget plan may mean for California

More than $1 billion would go to the state for Medicaid and to help jail illegal aliens.

Any one who votes in favor of these spending cuts, throw their asses out of Congress. How dare this administration give California $1 billion for MediCaid, 90% of which is going to illegal aliens or their anchor baby offsprings, and wants to cut the $226 million for increased border security and our virtual fence.

    Grrrrr.

The proposal also includes $330 million to help states pay for jailing illegal immigrants. The money has long been a priority for California officials, who argue that local and state taxpayers should not have to bear the burden of Washington's failure to control America's borders. California's expected $90-million share would represent a fraction of the nearly $1 billion the state probably will spend this year on incarcerating illegal immigrants.
The budget proposal includes $25 billion in additional Medicaid funds for states, of which California is projected to receive $1.5 billion.

Where did you get the 90% claim?
Do you have a like to data that shows that statement is true?

Obama beefs up border security in 2011 budget ????

The following report was written by Meredith Simons of the Washington bureau.

The Department of Homeland Security unveiled a $56.3 billion budget Monday that includes funding for the virtual border fence, E-Verify, and an increase in the number of border patrol officers and intelligence analysts along the southern border.

In a year in which President Obama has spoken about the need to "save what we can" to combat record deficits, some federal agencies are seeing programs trimmed or eliminated entirely, but DHS escaped the budgeting process unscathed. Obama's budget, which must be approved by Congress before it takes effect, asks for $6 billion more for DHS than the department received in FY 2010 . . .

No, that's just my estimate of how much that additional money from the Feds will be used by California and why they need it to begin with. California is $15 billion a year short on their budget each year. $10 billion of that is spent on health care, education and incarceration of illegal aliens in California. That's a story that was reported here on ALIPAC. So, one of the primary reasons California needs the MediCaid assistance from the federal government is because of the uncovered expense associated with illegal aliens and their offsprings for health care services. So, at least 90% of the additional $1 billion of MediCaid funding from the Feds will be used to provide health care to illegal aliens in California. Otherwise, California wouldn't need additional MediCaid assistance from the federal government to begin with.

Yes, but he also cut $226 million that was already scheduled for the virtual fence on the argument that there were delays in the process of installing the virtual fence and that the monies weren't needed in this budget, according to Janet Napolitano. If he doesn't keep the money for it in this budget on schedule, then he's just going to waste the money on something else and these delays may not mean a delay for a whole year if in fact they aren't solved before October when FY2011 begins. He should have left the money in there for the virtual fence.
