CBP Officers Intercept Gun, Money, Dope in Arizona
(Wednesday, June 17, 2009)

Lukeville, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer’s work is so unpredictable when dealing with the traveling public. The CBP officer’s job entails sifting through law abiding citizens to catch the small percentage of smugglers. In the last few days the officers sifting resulted in a successful find of a loaded weapon, money, and marijuana.

The initial case began with a CBP officer processing travelers coming from Mexico and subsequently referred the 29-year-old driver of a Dodge Intrepid to the vehicle secondary lot for further inspection.

In the secondary area the vehicle was inspected and found to have 51.5 grams of marijuana, a loaded .45 pistol, and $41,230.00 hidden in the vehicle. All items were seized including the vehicle.

“This is a good example of the dangers we face at the border, said Port Director Richard A. Gill. “It is also a reminder of the times we live in and the steps U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have to take to protect the citizens of this country from those who wish to harm us.â€
