Program focuses on criminal immigrants

A trial effort by the Obama administration to identify and deport illegal immigrants arrested for crimes is experiencing growing pains, analysts say.

The Secure Communities program, which was begun under the Bush administration, is seen as a way to concentrate on deporting illegal immigrants who commit crimes rather than mass deportations carried out at worksites. Some federal officials in charge of the trials in jails at San Diego, Phoenix, Dallas, Miami and Durham, N.C., however, say they lack the resources to deport all of those identified, The New York Times reported Sunday.

The newspaper said that among arrestees identified as illegal immigrants and people with visas or temporary residence cards, only a third have actually been deported.

"We do have a limited amount of resources," David Venturella, the director of the federal program, told The Times. "It's our priority to focus on the more serious offenders."

The program works by allowing local law enforcement to compare the fingerprints of suspects not just to criminal databases maintained by the FBI, but also to one of known illegal immigrants held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, officials say.

So now our government doesn't have enough money to JUST DEPORT CRIMINAL ILLEGALS!!!!

BUT we have the millions to help a damn mouse or turtle???????

So they are just deporting SERIOUS criminals??

So what's robbery?, what's rape? what's Stolen Idendities?

OK if money is the issue, don't deport them, just don't give them health care, education, social services, welfare or police protection. That will save big bukcs! And they will leave on their own.
