The President recently signed legislation that provides substantial funding for border security initiatives. This good news means that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will be allocated the border and immigration resources it needs to continue efforts to stop illegal immigration. The fiscal year 2009 DHS appropriations bill, which included the border funding, was passed as part of H.R. 2638, commonly referred to as the fiscal year 2009 continuing resolution. The DHS bill includes $775 million to complete the construction of 670 miles of border fencing, and it also provides funding for 2,200 new Border Patrol agents.

The DHS legislation would increase the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention beds by 1,400, for a total of 33,400. The increases in detention space have allowed the government to eliminate the counterproductive policy of “catch and release,â€

I have one question. Since Congress holds the purse strings of this country, when the Secure Fence Act was legislated in 2006, why was it not fully funded?

Why are the trucks from Mexico still running? there not suppose to have any funding......because they do what ever they want...to hell with congress and to hell with the American citizens

They are still running because the U.S. government allows them to operate here.
If the U.S. government wanted it stopped the trucks would all be stopped at the border.

Wondering about the 287g program...

Both my sheriff and local police have applied.

The county sheriff recently announced that 1/5 of his jail are illegal aliens. And that half of our county murders have been committed by illegals this past year. He is hooked up to DC, got the computer equipment, is applying for reimbursement -but no official word yet....

I understand they are full right now and not letting anyone new sign up...at least you are signed up so shouldn't take too long, your ahead of most of us!! My state doesn't want to spend the money on it, so we still have alot of work cut out for us, they say the problem isn't bad enough here....you know how they are have to wait until it is out of hand
