Proposal to eliminate protections for Salvadoran immigrants

    http://www.kesq.com/Global/story.asp?S=4136301&nav=9qrx

WASHINGTON The Bush administration has proposed ending protections for illegal immigrants newly arrived from El Salvador, arguing the safeguards interfere with new border control policies.

The 1988 injunction requires immigration authorities to advise Salvadorans of their right to a hearing before an immigration judge and of their right to apply for political asylum, among other things.

The Department of Homeland Security says the protections get in the way of the "expedited removal" policy along the U-S-Mexico border.

Under that policy, illegal immigrants who don't have a criminal background or pose a national security threat can be removed without a hearing.

The Justice Department filed a motion in Los Angeles today seeking to dissolve the injunction.

Geez Jorge, instead of all these ridiculous half measures that don't solve the problem why don't you just have a law that says all illegal immigrants (regardless of race) will be immediately deported no questions asked and you actually enforce it. What a concept. Until that happens then you are not going to be taken seriously when it comes to our nations security.
