Dozens protest day-laborer hiring

RANCHO PENASQUITOS – A group of anti-illegal-immigration activists gathered along Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard yesterday morning to protest the hiring of day laborers there.

It is the same spot where a physical confrontation broke out between day laborers and activist John Monti a year earlier. Monti was recently acquitted of all charges related to the incident.

The protest, organized by the San Diego Minutemen, drew about 35 activists from as far away as Orange County.
They spread out along the road on both sides of state Route 56, waving American flags and soliciting honks from passing motorists.
