CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rallies are scheduled across the country today to push for immigration reform.

Organizers also plan a rally and a march in Charlotte. Police said last year on May 1 more than 5,000 people rallied uptown in Marshall Park to push for laws to allow undocumented immigrants to stay in this country.

The Young Republicans held a counter-rally at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. They sold bricks and suggested building a wall at the U.S. border to keep illegal immigrants from entering the country.

Some immigration supporters plan to march into uptown Charlotte this afternoon. They plan to meet between the government center and the courthouse on East Fourth Street.

The rally starts at 6:30 p.m.
