Protesters march for immigration reform in D.C.
    May 1, 2009 - 5:12pm

WASHINGTON - About 1,000 protesters are marching to the White House to call for a change in immigration policy.

It is one of several May Day rallies taking place across the country to recognize the labor holiday.

The group is chanting "Yes We Can" in Spanish and holding signs that read "Reform, Not Raids."

Sarahi Uribe, of Washington, wore a black and white prison shirt and was chained to nine other marchers. Uribe says she opposes a law that allows local police to enforce immigration policies.

Mario Quiroz from CASA de Maryland says the group wants the Obama administration to push for reform that will help the economy and "bring lots of immigrants out of the shadows."

The protesters have organized under the National Capital Immigrant Coalition, a group that supports working immigrant families.

Illegals march yourselves back to Mexico.

Isn't this scary that a population that has broken our laws feel that they have the right to demand anything from our country. Arrogant.

There was an announcement made at this event that Barack Obama will be meeting with the board of the National Capital Immigrant Coalition in the White House next week.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The turnout for this Mayday event was the same size as at the Teaparty though the weather was worse back then. There was rain before the Mayday event but not during and on it.
