Protesters rally in Brooklyn to push for Dream Act

Hundreds of protesters rallied in Brooklyn Sunday for a bill that would create a path to citizenship for young illegal immigrants who go to college or join the military.

Supporters of the DREAM Act, which would apply to immigrants brought to the U.S. as children, hope it reaches a vote in Congress in the next few weeks before Republican gains in Congress effectively kill its chances.

"The window of opportunity is closing, but we will not rest until we get it done," Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-Brooklyn) said at the rally at a Bushwick church.
Velasquez met with President Obama last week to push for the bill. "The least we can do is to pass the DREAM Act as a down payment for comprehensive immigration reform," she said.

Undocumented immigrants are barred from joining the military, and usually don't qualify for college financial aid.

"I've lived all my life here," said Kendy Rodriguez, 15, a high school sophomore from Queens whose family brought her here from Mexico when she was 3. "I have no say in how I got here. ... I haven't done anything wrong."

    No

We have to stop the Dream Act. Illegals enter our country without visas or overstay. Illegal immigration is created by the same illegal aliens, law breakers. The United States does not create that problem. Therefore, we must not grant amnesty to law breakers. Over 3 million legal immigrants enter our country each year. That is too many. We have to reduce legal immigration. But illegal immigration, we must not accept. Enforce current immigration laws and illegals will leave. Remember: The Democrats support amnesty for illegals and they support illegal immigration. So we have to vote all the Democrats out. In 2012 let's do just that!!!

I love this statement "The least we can do". For what? She makes it sound like we owe them.

"as a down payment" We don't owe them comprehensive immigration reform.

Their parents broke our immigration laws. Broke our child endangerment laws, broke our contributing to the delinquency of minor laws, etc. But it is the American citizens that owe them?

I got news it is the parents of all these illegal students that owes us. The least these students could do is pack up all their parents and escort them back over the border. As a down payment we want to see every student sign a document declaring that they will never sponsor or assist any family member in coming to the U.S. Sign a document that they will not send money earned in the U.S. with the education paid for by U.S. citizens out of the country. If they violate any of these conditions they will be deported. Only them would we even consider passing the Dream Act.
