Latino youths to hear labor figure

TRACY - The annual Tracy Latino Youth Conference will present featured speaker Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Workers union along with farm labor activist Cesar Chavez. Huerta is a former resident of San Joaquin County.

The conference, scheduled for Feb. 7 at North School, will be open to the public from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Huerta will speak at 8:45 a.m. in the school's gymnasium, at 2875 Holly Drive.

Students registered for the conference will stay until 2 p.m. for career exploration workshops in the fields of education, science, health care, media, law and more. Workshops for parents also will cover financial aid, gang awareness, community resources, high school graduation requirements and an introduction to college life.

The conference is organized by the Tracy Unified School District, Tracy Chamber Hispanic Business Group, Sutter Tracy Healthy Connections and the city of Tracy.
