She explained that a Mexican student without an American passport or permanent residency that applies to the university must prove that he/she has the income to pay for his/her four years of studies. In the case of Meixcan-Americans, however, first you are accepted and then the University grants you a scholarship, if you need one.
Really? Then how are children of illegal aliens from mexico getting in?

[quote]Many Mexican-Americans feel more identified with MECHA, since they were born into the two cultures. This is why the majority of students that actively participate in Mex@Penn are Mexicans raised in Mexico and that come to the US to earn their degreeâ€

Mex@Penn are Mexican nationals on student visas..usually representing wealthy, upper-middle class Mexican nationals who come from Mexico's elite. They tend to be conservative, well-travelled, and don't need to "learn about their culture" ....they want to experience the U.S. apart from Chicanos...who often times are an embarrassment to them. A little bird also told me that the other foreign students from Latin America don't tend to associate themselves with either of the Mexican groups. As much as La RAZA, LULAC and other mostly Mexican/Chicano groups want to portray themselves as "unifying" all Latinos...it's a false potrayal. The reality is that there are deep divisions, racism, and deep-seated classism ..and that doesn't change when these groups come here.
