Immigrant Workers Threatened After They Speak Out for Hotel Workers' Rights

On Monday, November 13th there will be a rally against threatened mass firings at the Woodfin Hotel in Emeryville. Hotel workers and their supporters will gather at 5:00pm at 5800 Shellmound St. for a "high-energy, family-friendly, musical, candle-lit community protest."

These immigrant workers received notices several weeks ago saying that the company believed their social security numbers were incorrect, and giving them a deadline of October 19th to fix the problem. After an outcry from the community, the Woodfin extended its deadline by a month, and no workers have yet been fired. Hotel managers are still insisting that they will terminate any employee who cannot correct a social security “no-match.â€

Give me the name and number of the orginization holding that rally. I'll put a stop to that Crap. Why are they upset? Some illegals can't get the social security numers they need to scam their way into jobs they are not susposed to have. This is like a confession of guilt! KICK THEM OUT!

The idiots should have know this was coming when they started marching. Their boldness is their downfall! The employer has a perfect right to fire them and there is NOTHING they can do about it

however, when there is a problem with a worker's social security number, a letter is sent to the employee, not to the employer, and the letters state that employers should not fire or discriminate against workers who receive them.

This is an outright LIE! First, why in the hell would they send it to the employee. It goes to the employer.....he's the one responsible for following the laws. The employee would just throw it away and the employer would know nothing about it. What are these people...total idiots?? They are breaking Federal Law if they don't fire people who have fake numbers, so the second part is, at best, a total distortion.

As each week, month, and year passes the illegal aliens are becoming more empowered, vocal, and rebellious. This is a situation that should have been nipped in the bud a long time ago. The fault rest solely with our federal government!

I'm with you Dixie, why hasn't the company contacted ICE for forced removal? Why aren't the citizens of the city yelling for enforcement of the law? Instead, it sound like the citizens are whinning because the illegals might lose their jobs. Something stinks in Denmark! Since when can't a company fire a known illegal immigrant?
