Illegal 'Immigrants' Vs. 'Aliens' And General Outrage
Today's front page story "Powerful Outage" -- or perhaps talk radio -- provoked heated responses from a couple of readers.

A Danielson reader wrote: "Until you decide to call the 'immigrants' what they are: ILLEGAL ALIENS, I will not be purchasing your paper. Time for you to refresh yourself as to the meaning of words. What occurred May 1 was an act of terrorism according to the American Heritage dictionary. 'The unlawful use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments, often for ideological or political reasons.' Keep your opinions out of the news."

A Granby reader wrote: "I notice you've coined another new word, 'undocumented immigrants.' Why not call them what they are: ILLEGAL immigrants."

Another reader said: "My husband and I are subscribers to the newspaper and have been for many years. However, we will be canceling our subscription because we have become outraged at the distortion of the news that appears in the paper. For instance, the large article on the front of today's newspaper, 'Powerful Outage.' An extensive article about the illegal aliens who marched through the streets of Connecticut and throughout the nation in our large cities. They are not immigrants. This is not an immigrant struggle. This is not an immigrant reform we are looking for. These are illegal aliens, citizens of foreign countries who have invaded our country. The paper does not refer to them as illegal aliens. If any one in the world should have outrage, it is the American people. There are no balancing facts in this newspaper to show that local or state or national politicians have given their opinion. There is no indication of the outrage of the American people. No lengthy interviews about the struggles of American citizens trying to compete in Coventry and in many of the fields. The only people who should be outraged in this country are the American citizens who have been let down by their government, which has not reinforced the borders, and the newspaper, which has become just an arm the left-wing, communist, socialist -- I don't know what is going on. My husband said to me this morning we can not trust our newspapers, our national news programs or our politicians to protect and defend and to have any sanity any longer. We have been invaded by foreigners and you people along with the politicians and other news organizations treat them as if they are some kind of benign . . . that we should welcome with open arms. I'm furious with you because you can not present factual information. If you can not defend the rights and privileges of the United States to defend itself against foreigners, then you have no business being in my home. I do not want to hear your point of view and will not listen to your propaganda any longer."
