Reduce crime by curtailing illegal immigration
Letters to the editor for Aug. 3
The Orange County Register
As a 30-year veteran police officer, now retired, I know that police chiefs in Orange County are directly and individually responsible for increased crime in their communities ["Sheriff, police explain immigration role," Local, Aug. 2]. The basic logic used by most chiefs involving illegal aliens defies common sense.

Illegal alien criminals commit crimes against all segments of the community and not just against other illegal aliens. If increased crime occurs against all segments of the community because of illegal aliens, wouldn't it make sense to address that specific criminal act?

Illegal aliens cannot be the victims of crime if they are not present in the community. So, also, they cannot be perpetrators of criminal activity. Right now, the crime rates in many cities in Orange County could be reduced anywhere from 10 percent to 30 percent by just saying that illegal aliens will be subject to arrest whenever they are contacted by a police officer. Tens of thousands of illegals would leave the county, reducing the net criminal activity going on. As a consequence, police officers, spending less time dealing with the criminal activity of illegals, would have more time to patrol your neighborhood and prevent you from becoming a victim.

So, the next time you are the victim of a crime, call up your local chief of police and thank him.
