ALIPAC: Rubio's change of heart questioned

    Rubio's change of heart questioned

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 5/11/2010 7:00:00 AMBookmark and Share

Marco Rubio (Florida Republican)An immigration enforcement political action committee is skeptical about the apparent "flip-flop" of Florida's GOP senatorial candidate on the controversial Arizona bill dealing with illegal immigration.

Last week, U.S. Senate candidate Marco Rubio announced he had shifted his stance and now approves of a new Arizona immigration law that has many others outraged. According to The Associated Press, the candidate thought the Arizona legislature went too far when it passed the original bill, but he feels a recent tweak -- which bans racial profiling and clearly defines when an officer can question immigration status -- makes the measure easier to support.

But William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), is skeptical about Rubio's change of heart in terms of border enforcement.

William Gheen (ALIPAC)"The fact that he spoke out against Arizona in their time of need tells us everything we need to know about who he really works for behind the scenes, especially combined with the news of Jeb Bush's endorsement," Gheen contends. "His flip-flop indicates that he's just saying what people want to hear; it's not really his conviction."

He believes Rubio's record on immigration supports his skepticism. "Every single piece of immigration enforcement legislation that lawmakers submitted in the state of Florida was blocked by Rubio as Speaker of the Florida House," Gheen points out. "Then he came out and he became very strong in his primary, talking tough on illegal immigration."

The ALIPAC president believes that when Rubio spoke against Arizona, a lot of his base became disenchanted with him.

The only difference between Marco Rubio and John McCain is give or take thirty years. While Marco Rubio has not outright pandered to illegal invaders and their kin, his voting record in the Florida House speaks volumes about what he really believes on the issue of illegal immigration.

Originally Mr Rubio's only input was the strong front put out by the advocates, the illegals themselves, and the Hollywood Whores in that movie Machete'. (Hope I didn't just violate the rules but I have come to dislike alot of people over this issue - including all those actors and actresses in the "illegal" trailer.) So the illegals were saying that the new AZ law had awakened a "sleeping giant." Nope, now the polls are in and the sleeping giant is the US citizen who has been ignored by their own government that supposedly is of the people by the people and for the people. Mr. Rubio probably now fears that having a Hispanic name could prevent a win. NO FLIP-FLOPPERS!

I would be a little apprehensive as well. Maybe it is an undercover attempt by La Raza Cozmica to infiltrate the anti-illegal crowd.

I agree that Rubio's inititial response to the new Arizona law was discouraging.

There is no doubt that we cannot look to Rubio to lead the charge against illegal immigration and amnesty. Nonetheless, I think he represents a pragmatic improvement over the current situation.

The fact is his record in the state legislature was pathetic with regards to illegal immigration related issues. Those truly knowledgeable about the political situation in Florida know that he avoided acting on the issue because the political calculus at the time was against legislation being successful and bringing it up would have caused an increased fracturing of the GOP at a time when a difficult election cycle was on the horizon. He chose to take the easy way out by not using his influence to bring legislation through committees and onto the floor for a vote. However, he is not running for state office at this time and no one should realistically be looking for him to become a leading advocate on behalf our cause.

Rubio has said that as a United States Senator he would not support Amnesty and even recently clarified his position on not allowing those here illegally to enjoy a pathway to citizenship. He has also repeatedly declared his support for requiring the Federal Government doing more to secure the border.

If Marco Rubio is not elected then we have an absolute guarantee that Charlie Crist or Kendrick Meeks will not only support but will advocate for open borders and amnesty. Charlie Crist is on record as supporting McCain-Kennedy and Kendrick Meeks, well I better not get started or I might say something I will regret.

There is no doubt that we can better spend our resources supporting those who will advocate for secure borders and oppose amnesty.

There is also no doubt that we can better spend our resources opposing those who are advocates for open borders and amnesty.

Is it beneficial for us to use what resources we have to take on those in the middle like Rubio appears to be? There is no way that he will not be an improvement over Mel Martinez. Does anyone honestly think that you will ever see Marco Rubio take to the Senate Floor and ask for Amnesty and berate those who oppose it? Be certain of one thing if either Crist or Meeks are elected you will see them follow in the footsteps of Martinez and do exactly that.

The lesser of these three evils is just not pure. But if we stay vigilant we have one less enemy.

P.S. If Republicans do not take back the Senate, which Florida would play a critical role in, and Harry Reid losses, then either Durbin (IL) or Schumer (NY) will likely lead the senate. And neither of these two will stop until the job is done. So, in that case just how would you like your amnesty served?

    I don't trust Rubio.

Sure he says he is anti amnesty, and against a pathway to legalization.

But the new GOP amnesty push is a guest worker amnesty program.
They are pushing it like mad now, from Beck, to Palin, to O'Reilly and on and on.

Illegal aliens would have to apply for citizenship and wait their turn.

But it allows all the lawbreakers to remain in the USA on a guest worker visa, rewarding them for their lawbreaking, and taking jobs away from Americans, so wages are kept nice and low.

Why should lawbreakers be rewarded by being allowed to remain?

Why should lawbreakers be rewarded by being allowed to take jobs that belong to Americans and legal immigrants?

Why should lawbreakers be allowed to stay here while legal immigrants have to wait outside?

Why should lawbreakers be given guest worker visa when people applying legally come second?

No, the monied interests are at it again.

    We must fight back.
Take a stand or all there will be left to do is to ask the last person in the country we once called America to lower the flag one last time.

    SovereignMan,

Rubio may be the best choice amid the options, but we all need to realize that he is probably on board with the GOP elite for a guest worker amnesty, which they claim is not amnesty at all.
