Reid Accepts LULAC National Legislative Award

WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid today addressed the League of United Latin American Citizens
th(LULAC) at their 10 annual National Legislative Awards Gala. Senator Reid
was honored with this year's National Legislative Award for his legislative
service to the Hispanic community. Following is the text of his remarks as
    prepared for delivery.
Thank you. It's an honor to be recognized by the League of United Latin
American Citizens. For 78 years, the men and women of LULAC have been
leading the fight for justice and equality for America's Hispanic families.
Over the last seven decades, you have made incredible progress for our
country, and I am proud to stand by your side.
    LULAC is a first-class organization, with first-class leadership. I'm a
tremendous fan of your new president, Rosa Rosales. I've been impressed
with her leadership, and look forward to working with her to advance the
    causes of the Latino community.
Hispanic-Americans are the fastest growing ethnic group in the United
States. The community is rich in heritage and tradition -- a heritage that
has helped make America vibrant and strong.
The importance of heritage was something I did not always understand.
I was raised in a small, mining town in the middle of the Nevada desert
called Searchlight. For many years, I tried to hide my roots and my
small-town upbringing. Throughout high school, college, law school, and my
career as a lawyer, I didn't want anyone to know where I came from, or
    about my hometown.
Then, one day in Reno, I heard Alex Haley --
    - the African American
writer -- speak about the importance of heritage. Through his words, I came
to understand that Searchlight was my foundation. The town --
    - and the people
there -- made me who I am.
While my heritage is Searchlight, many of you in this room share a
common Hispanic heritage, which is steeped in values such as family,
    community, and hard work.
In America today, we must do more to ensure these values -- and your
    heritage -- are honored.
For all the contributions Hispanics have made to our nation, the
community still faces too many obstacles.
Health care. Education. And immigration. Each of these issues is a
priority for me, but tonight, let me say a few words about immigration.
Immigration is an issue that is important for Latinos and important for
    the nation.
As you know, we passed a solid immigration bill in the Senate last
year. Unfortunately, it fell victim to politics in the House of
Representatives. This issue is too vital to our security and our economy to
fall by the wayside, so we will deal with it again in 2007.
When the Senate opened in January, I made comprehensive immigration
reform thone of my top 10 bills for the 110 Congress. I expect we'll start
debate on the floor in the next few months.
When the debate starts, Democrats will once again fight for
comprehensive immigration reform. There are no quick solutions to this
issue. We need a complete approach. With tough and smart reforms, we can
secure our borders, crack down on enforcement, and lay out a path to earned
    legalization for undocumented immigrants.
    Cesar Chavez once said:
'If you are outraged at conditions, then you cannot possibly be happy
until you do everything you can to change them.'
Those are words the members of LULAC carry with them each day. You are
doing everything you can to bring ''change'' -- to enhance, promote and
    strengthen America's Hispanic community.
In that fight, I -- - and the entire Senate Democratic
    Caucus -- -
    stand by
your side. Together, we will help give Americans --
    - of all heritages -- an
opportunity to achieve the American dream.

Yea and he's going to earmark them millions more in tax dollars so they are giving him a reward to remind him of his devotion to them and they are pretending that they will vote for him. That's flea ridden communal back scratching.

Guess who made this speech and introduced this legislation in 1993?

"In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, (I) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress. Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care, and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country."

"We are a country founded upon fairness and justice. An individual in real threat of torture or long-term incarceration because of his or her political beliefs can still seek asylum. But this bill closes the door to those who want to abuse America's inherent generosity and legal system."

"Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs. The Immigration and Naturalization Service needs the ability to step up enforcement. Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care, and other benefits often without paying any taxes."

"Safeguards like welfare and free medical care are in place to boost Americans in need of short-term assistance. These programs were not meant to entice freeloaders and scam artists from around the world. Even worse, Americans have seen heinous crimes committed by individuals who are here illegally."

Specific provisions proposed in the Immigration Stabilization Act include:

    * Reduces annual legal immigration levels. Relatives other than spouse or minor children admitted only if already on immigration waiting lists and their admission does not raise annual immigration levels above approved level.

    * Reforms asylum rules to prevent aliens from entering the United States illegally under phony "asylum" claims.

    * Expands list of felonies considered "aggravated" felonies requiring exclusion and deportation of criminal aliens. Allows courts to order deportation at time of sentencing.

    * Increases penalties for failing to depart or re-entering the United States after a final order of deportation order. Increases maximum penalties for visa fraud from five years to 10 years.

    * Curtails alien smuggling by authorizing interdiction and repatriation of aliens seeking to enter the United States unlawfully by sea. Increases penalties for alien smuggling.

    * Adds "alien smuggling" to the list of crimes subject to sanctions under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

    * Expands the categories of property that are forfeited when used to facilitate the smuggling or harboring of illegal aliens.

    * Clarifies that a person born in the United States to an alien mother who is not a lawful resident is not a U.S. citizen. This will eliminate incentive for pregnant alien women to enter the United States illegally, often at risk to mother and child, for the purpose of acquiring citizenship for the child and accompanying federal financial benefits.

    * Mandates that aliens who cannot demonstrably support themselves without public or private assistance are excludable. This will prevent admission of aliens likely to be dependent on public financial support. This requirement extends to the sponsor of any family sponsored immigrant.

    * Increases border security and patrol officer positions.

It was Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) who introduced the Immigration Stabilization Act in the United States Senate in 1993. The statements quoted above are from a press release issued by Reid's office on August 5, 1993.

How is that Harry Reid was exactly right more than fourteen years ago, but is so completely wrong now? Why would Reid oppose programs he once sponsored now that the problem is seven times greater in scope and after the 9/11 attacks?

Just last spring, while the U.S. Senate was debating legislation to make English the official U.S. language, Reid saw fit to drag out the R word-racist-to slander those supported the English bill.

And, of course, Reid voted for Mexico and against America when the U.S. Senate voted for amnesty on May 25 of last year.

Harry Reid: Against illegal immigration before he was for it! Why?

Well, obviously someone got a hold of Reid since 1993.

    Reid makes me sick!

I started out trying to reason with him. After he said "making the English language is racist" I started berating him. After I got that out of my system I started sending daily reports of Americans being killed and raped by illegals so he can't claim ignorance, not that he personally reads anything I send.

I've sent several letters and 100+ e-mails/faxes. I'm surprised he hasn't blocked my IP address at this point.

I'm afraid the only result I will see from this is raising my taxes to pay for all his fax paper I'm using.

Reid is one of the biggest enemies we have.
